Netflix’s Gaming

After Netflix started talking about video games, investors were skeptical, and the mobile gaming launched in November 2021 didn’t change the investors’ minds.

During the last four months, Netflix has released more mobile games. Currently, they have 14 of them and 18 interactive-video options available. And recently bought another game developer, so now everything is coming to place.

At first, Netflix’s video game collection looked like a disorganized mess. There was a wide range of titles, and only a few video games had any apparent ties to the original shows or movies of the company.

As for the quality of gaming experience, some are poor conversions of PC or console games, meaning the controls don’t always make sense on a tablet or smartphone.

The primary audience of Netflix’s interactive videos is younger kids. For adults, there is Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. The experiences go from that interactive show to meditation tools and animated picture books with a choose-your-own-adventure twist.

There are also recent gaming acquisitions. Netflix announced a $72 million buyout of the game developer Next Games, which caused rumours surrounding the next experience in the Stranger Things world.

Now, if you are thinking of the cost of Netflix’s gaming, don’t worry. As long as you have an active subscription, the company won’t take more of your money because the company seeks to avoid pay-to-play.

Netflix wishes to set up a robust framework for its gaming service to make it significantly different from the rest of the industry.

The business model of the company has attracted 222 million subscribers. Last year, the revenue was $29.7 billion. What’s interesting is that even with Netflix’s great video-streaming concept, it still has no competitors, and nobody is doing what Netflix does.

For now, let’s see where the company will be in a couple of years. Maybe they separate the games from the video content, meaning there will be a need to create a second account.

Still, it is soon to speak about the company’s future, and there will undoubtedly be some problems along the way but be ready to buy Netflix on the dips.
